Customs destroys 1,000 cases of alcohol

Maldives Customs has destroyed 1,142 cases of alcohol imported by private groups in October 2013.

Over 8,000 bottles and 6,000 cans of expired alcohol were destroyed following the advice of the Public Health Protection Department.

Customs said that the items were destroyed under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence.

Customs said that under the new Customs General Regulation, items that are expired or declared unfit for human consumption by relevant authorities are being destroyed by Maldives Customs.

As part of these efforts, 2,000 cases of alcohol were destroyed at the end of November 2013 as well.
