Registration opened for immigrants wishing to return at their own cost

The Department of Immigration and Emigration has opened registration for illegal immigrants who wish to return to their countries at their own cost.

Immigration Department has said that registration will be open from 23 to 31 December 2013 between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m., and on 5 and 6 January 2014 between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Immigrants can register every day except Fridays during the specified periods, at Dharumavantha School.

Immigration Department said that immigrants should take with them a document with their photo provided by the respective High Commission when they go for registration.

This is part of new efforts by the government to repatriate illegal immigrants, an increasing problem in the Maldives.
