Japan donates MVR 36 million to Maldives

An agreement has been signed for the government of Japan to donate MVR 36 million to the health sector of the Maldives.

The ‘Exchange of Notes’ was signed by Minister at the President’s Office Abdulla Ameen on behalf of the Maldivian government, and Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Nobuhito Hobo on behalf of the Japanese government.

The Japanese Embassy said that priority will be given, under this agreement, to providing health equipment to regions that most need them.

The Embassy also said that it hopes that these donations to regional and atoll hospitals will improve people’s health in those regions.

The purpose of this donation, the Embassy said, is to assist Maldives in social and economic development.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the regions that will receive this aid will be decided by the Ministry of Health.

The Japanese government has also invited President Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim for an official visit to Japan.

President Yameen has accepted this invitation and decided to visit Japan in March 2014.

Japan has always provided generous donations to the Maldives.
