Businessman and Deputy Leader of Jumhooree Party Abdulla Jabir, who was appointed by President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik as the government’s Special Trade Representative, has resigned from this post.
Jabir said that his letter of resignation was to the President’s Office yesterday, and that the reason for his resignation is his decision to contest for the Kaashidhoo seat in the Parliament.
“I think this is how things should be done in a democracy. I do not want the position to influence my campaign in any way. Also, I am working very hard on the campaign, which does not leave much time for anything else. That’s why I resigned,” Jabir said.
Jabir’s resignation comes 18 days after he was appointed as Special Trade Representative on 23 February 2012.
