MNDF awarded SAARC-medal

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has been awarded the SAARC-medal, in recognition of their remarkable efforts in the preparation and security of the 17th SAARC Summit held in Addu city.

The guest of honor at last night’s ceremony held at Kalhuthukkalaa koshi was President and commander-in-chief of MNDF Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik. SAARC-medals were presented by the President to one officer of each rank.

MNDF said that the medal, awarded to all MNDF officers, is given in recognition of the remarkable efforts made by them in the 17th SAARC Summit held in the Maldives.

In addition to SAARC-medal, five officers were awarded Service Medals and Good Conduct Medals and 49 officers were awarded Ribbons.

The five officers were presented Medals and certificates by Minister of Defence and National Security Mohamed Nazim. The Ribbons and certificates were presented by Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam.

Defence Minister Nazim said that the decision to award the SAARC medal was made following advice from MNDF’s advisory majlis, that every officer who was serving the MNDF at the time of the summit is a rightful owner of this medal. All officers will be presented their medals in the near future.
