Local subsidiary of the Sri Lankan insurance company Ceylinco Insurance has issued MVR 60,000 in claims to the family of a 13-year-old girl who died in a road accident in Addu City in November this year.
Assistant Manager of Ceylinco Hussain Razeen said today that the money was awarded through a third party insurance scheme under which the car that hit the victim, Aminath Zeeshan, was insured. He said the money was transferred to an account owned by the victim’s father on Thursday.
The accident took place around 7:00 p.m. on 11 November near Addu City State Square. Police said Zeeshan had already passed away by the time she was transported to the hospital.
A mandatory insurance in the Maldives, third party insurance policy is purchased by the insured from an insurance company, for protection against another party's claims. Ceylinco said they have issued third-party insurance claims to two parties in the country so far.
In addition to Celinco, companies Allied Insurance, Amana Takaful and Sri Lankan Insurance have also introduced third party insurance packages, since the insurance was made mandatory in early 2012.
