ACP Areef appointed head of police intelligence

Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef has been appointed the Head of Intelligence and Covert Policing Command of the Maldives Police Service.

Ahmed Areef was previously in-charge of the Information and Communications Directorate.

Speaking to Sun today, the Police Media Official said that the change is not extraordinary and that it is an executive level decision. He said that many such changes have been made in the past.

“This is a change for the development of the police service. It is normal that such changes be made to executive level posts,” the official said.

Former head of intelligence Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Phairoosch has been transferred to head the Service Development Directorate.

Additional changes include the transfer of Superintendent Abdul Mannan Yoosuf as the head of Divisional Operations Command, Superintendent Mohamed Riyaz as the deputy head of Divisional Operations Command and Assistant Commissioner Farhad Fikry as the head of Information and Communications Directorate.
