Three more officers dismissed from MNDF

Chief security organization of the State, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has dismissed three more officers from the force, including a top ranking Brigadier General.

MNDF has revealed the three as Brigadier General Abdulla Shamaal, Captain Abdul Muizzu Musthafa and Sergeant Major Naushad Ali.

According to a press release published today, Brigadier General Abdulla Shamaal was dismissed for propagating discord within the ranks and Captain Muizzu Muthafa was dismissed with allegations of “planning to carry out dangerous acts by utilizing his troops.”

MNDF said Sergeant Major Naushad Ali was removed from the force for signing a document pledging allegiance to the Chief of Defence Force and later trying to conceal the names of the officers who signed the document. The document was assembled by Brigadier General Abdulla Shamaal and was in wide circulation in social media networks towards the end of the last administration.

MNDF on Tuesday dismissed five officers in addition to its former Head of military intelligence, Brigadier General Ahmed Nilam, who was dismissed after being demoted to Colonel.

Nilam was dismissed on allegations of revealing classified information and attempting to propagate discord within the force. The five officers were dismissed on an array of charges including failing to follow military responsibilities and duties, violating the ethical standard, revealing confidential information and propagating discord.

In late September, a petition signed by four MNDF officers was presented to Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam over which several officers were suspended for propagating discord within MNDF.
