Speaker of Parliament Abdulla Shahid has notified the Parliamentary Committee on Oversight of the Government to complete its assessment on granting approval for ministers before 23 December.
The speaker said that if the assessment is completed by 23 December, the issue can be tabled for the parliament sitting scheduled for Sunday, 29 December.
The committee has already commenced its assessment, and Chairperson Ali Waheed told Sun Online that the debate will begin on 15 December, after information is collected from relevant institutions.
President Abdulla Yameen has sent the names of 11 cabinet ministers for parliament approval.
They are Minister of Home Affairs Umar Naseer, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr Mohamed Shainy, Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Minister of Environment and Energy Thorig Ibrahim, Minister of Transport Ameen Ibrahim, Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture Ahmed Adheeb, Minister of Defence and National Security Colonel (Rtd) Mohamed Nazim, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dhunya Maumoon, and Minister of Finance Abdulla Jihad.
The names of Minister of Education Dr Aishath Shiham, Minister of Health and Gender Dr Maryam Shakeela, Minister of Youth and Sports Mohamed Maleeh Jamal, and Attorney General Mohamed Anil are yet to be sent to the parliament for approval.
