Immigration Department waives queue for elderly

Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that the elderly will not have to stay in queue to obtain the department’s services, starting today.

The department released a statement today stating that people above the age 65 will be able to obtain services from the department without waiting in queue, but the service sought by the person must be personal in nature.

An elderly person seeking to obtain his passport from the department maybe approach Immigration staff directly, the department statement said.

A few government institutions, including the State’s central hospital Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and the Ministry of Transport and Communication have waived queuing for elderly, a government initiative to fulfill a campaign pledge of the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to ease services for elderly.
