Fishing boat that went missing will arrive in Male

Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has said that it has been in contact with the yellow-fin tuna fishing boat named “Kanduroadhi”, which went missing earlier today, and that the boat will arrive in Male’ early Monday morning.

MNDF Deputy Spokesperson Major Hussain Ali said that they contacted the boat by phone at around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night, at which time the boat’s location was about 15 nautical miles off Meemu Kolhufushi.

He said that the boat faced engine problems and was unable to move for some time.

“It was reported to us that the boat went missing, so we launched a search. They faced an engine problem, but we haven’t got any details,” he said.

MNDF cited the boat captain and said that everyone on-board is doing well and that the boat is now en-route to Male’.
