IGMH to facilitate for elderly to obtain service without waiting in queue

Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has said that the elderly and people with disabilities will not have to wait in queue to obtain the hospital’s services, starting from tomorrow (Sunday).

Making the announcement today, Media Official at the State’s central hospital Zeenath Ali Habeeb said with the introduction of the new regulation, the elderly and people with disabilities will be able to get prompt service from the Out Patient Department (OPD), Laboratory and X-ray service counters.

Zeenath said that starting from Sunday, the elderly and people with disabilities will have to approach the information counter with their national identification cards to obtain a special token, which will entitle the patient to quicker service.

“It will be evaluated whether the child needs the service, before it is given. Elderly is considered 65 years [and above],” Zeenath said.

She said the hospital has served 15,532 elderly within the past three months and over 183,000 elderly in total, during the past year.

Zeenath said IGMH is also considering to waive the queue for elderly seeking to consult specialist doctors.

“If the patient is willing to see any doctor. For example, if the patient wants to consult a surgeon, the hospital will facilitate for the patient to see a random surgeon as soon as possible,” Zeenath said.
