Rozaina, Ramiz resign as DRP Deputy Leaders

Two out of three Deputy Leaders of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Thulusdhoo MP Rozaina Adam and Vilingili MP Mohamed Ramiz, have resigned.

Their resignations come less than 24 hours after the resignation of DRP Leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali.

Acting Leader of DRP Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed (Colonel) told Sun Online that Ramiz has tendered his resignation, but did not indicate any reason for his resignation.

Rozaina said that she now wants to join the party that works towards holding the government accountable for its actions.

Following the resignation of Rozaina and Ramiz, none of the members who were elected to DRP’s leadership at the party’s latest Congress remain in their posts.

At the Congress held in April 2013, Medhu-Henveyru MP Ali Azim was also elected as Deputy Leader, but he has also defected to Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Rozaina published a tweet on Saturday that she has decided to sign for MDP to "work for democracy, human rights, against torture & against a dictatorship."

In a tweet on Sunday, Thasmeen said he is proud to have supported MDP presidential candidate, former president Mohamed Nasheed, and that the future lies with MDP.
