The Maldives has been re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council for a second term.
An official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Sun Online that 164 countries voted for the Maldives being re-elected to the 47-seat council at the UN Headquarters in New York today.
Besides Maldives, China, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam were also elected to the council today.
The Foreign Ministry official said that the importance of cultivating human rights was part of the Maldives’ campaign for winning the seat.
Fourteen countries were elected to the council today, and Maldives was elected from 2014 to 2016.
