Riyaz Rasheed appointed as President of Gaumee Party

Vilufushi MP Riyaz Rasheed has been appointed to the post of President of Gaumee Party.

Until now, Riyaz acted as Vice President of Gaumee Party.

Gaumee Party said in a statement issued that this appointment was passed by the party’s council today.

Gaumee Party’s regulation states that it must have a president until the next Congress.

The post of President of Gaumee Party became vacant when Dr Hassan Saeed resigned, following which the post was temporarily filled by Vice President of Gaumee Party Imad Solih.

Riyaz told Sun Online today that Dr Hassan Saeed’s resignation does not mean that the party should cease to exist, and that the party has made several important achievements in the field of politics.

He said that Gaumee Party has decided to back Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in the second round of the presidential election, and would do everything possible to facilitate victory for PPM.
