The parties that have decided to back Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in the second round of the presidential election have said that they have set aside their differences, and decided to work together to win the election.
Party officials made this remark at a press conference held today, which was attended by Vice Presidential candidate of PPM Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, Adhaalath Party, Gaumee Party, Islamic Democratic Party (IDP), and Gaumee Itthihad Party.
Adhaalath Party’s Dr Mohamed Shaheem said, “We have joined hands to defend our independence, sovereignty, and religion. We want to establish a stable government. I want all beloved citizens who voted for Jumhooree Coalition, to vote for PPM.”
He said that Adhaalath Party had decided long ago to support whichever party that moves to the second round - to save the country from the ideals of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Imad Solih, who replaced Hassan Saeed as President of Gaumee Party following his resignation last night, called on the public to think about the country’s interests, work hard over the next four days, and vote for PPM.
Officials of IDP also said that they have put aside their differences and decided to work with PPM.
Representative of President Waheed’s Gaumee Itthihad Party, Thorig Ali Luthfee praised Yameen, and urged all supporters of Gaumee Itthihad Party and President Waheed to vote for Yameen.
The press conference was also attended by Umar Naseer and Fayaz Mohamed.
