Voting times for overseas stations announced

Elections Commission has today announced the voting times for ballot stations placed overseas.

The commission said polling will be conducted from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in New Delhi, Trivandrum and Colombo, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in London, 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, all times in local of the respective countries.

Polling for the first round of the fresh presidential election will be conducted on Saturday 9 November and a second round, if necessary, on Sunday 10 November.

The second round was previously scheduled for 16 November, but was brought forward to avoid complications that might arise if the country fails have a president elect by the constitutional end-of-term deadline of 11 November.

Elections Commission announced on Wednesday night that, if a second round of the presidential election is required, it will be held on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the counting of ballots will commence 30 minutes after the ballot boxes are closed and the results will be announced at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
