Second round of voting brought forward to 10 November

Elections Commission decided on Wednesday night to bring forward the second round of the presidential election to Sunday 10 November, the day next of the first round of voting on Saturday 9 November.

The second round, if necessary, was previously scheduled for 16 November. The date was brought forward to avoid complications that might arise if the country fails have a president elect by the constitutional end-of-term deadline of 11 November.

Elections Commission and political party officials have agreed on a revised election calendar, following their recision to bring forward the second round.

Elections Commission has opened re-registration for the second round between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. today (Thursday). Re-registration is required for voters who wishes to vote from a different location from the first round of the election.

Elections Commission issued an announcement Wednesday night stating that, if a second round of the presidential election is required, it will be held on Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the counting of ballots for the second round will commence 30 minutes after the ballot boxes are closed and the results will be announced at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
