A Judge of Gn. Fuvahmulah Magistrate has been attacked and left with a broken leg early this morning.
A Fuvahmulah court official said today that Judge Ahmed Latheef of Hudhuasurumaage, Maadhadu was attacked by two people who were walking on the street, while the Judge was on his way to the mosque for morning prayers. The attackers fled the scene when someone approached them on a motorbike.
“The Magistrate of this Court Ahmed Latheef was attacked last night while he was on his way to perform morning prayers. He was assaulted by two people who were walking on the street, who also broke his leg. They fled the scene when someone approached them on a motorbike,” the official said.
He said that Judge Ahmed Latheef decides the arrest period of the people taken into custody following the unrest on 8 February in Fuvahmulah.
An official of Fuvahmulah Atoll Hospital said today that Ahmed Latheef was taken to the hospital early morning, and is currently under treatment. Latheef arrived at the hospital with a broken left ankle, and doctors have now advised to send him to Male’ for further treatment.
Attempts to contact the Police on this matter have not yet been successful.
The Police have submitted 41 cases of violence to the Prosecutor General (PG) Office following the unrest in Fuvahmulah on 8 February.
Fuvahmulah Magistrate Court was set on fire on 8 February - the fire was however controlled before it caused any serious damage.
Windows of Fuvahmulah PG Office and Police Station were also broken on the same day.
