Parliament security should be handled by State security services as per constitution, says Defence Ministry

Ministry of Defence and National Security has said that a force outside the State security services should not handle the security of the parliament.

The Ministry released a statement tonight stating Article 105 (a) of the constitution states that the security of the House of the Parliament, all property to the House of the Parliament and all offices and facilities where its work is conducted shall be protected by the security services of the State.

The Ministry stated that it does not believe that the parliament can hand over the security responsibilities to a party outside the security services, when the constitution clearly bestows the responsibility upon the State security services.

Parliament recent appointed a Sergeant at Arms, who according to the parliament, shall be responsible for the security to the parliament, as directed by the Speaker. Parliament has also announced for 100 persons with military backgrounds to work under the Sergeant at Arms.
