JP finds problems in several re-registration forms

Jumhooree Party (JP) has said that they have found problems in several re-registration forms submitted for the presidential election scheduled for 9 November.

Secretary General of JP Hassan Shah said at a press conference today, that they have checked 15,000 forms and found problems in several of them.

The main problem noted by JP was that the Elections commission accepted forms if the owner of the form confirmed that the form was submitted by him, even if there was a fingerprint mismatch.

Shah noted that the policy on accepting re-registration forms was created only after the deadline for submitting re-registration forms had passed.

The policy, created by the Elections Commission, states that in the event that the Department of National Registration (DNR) says that the fingerprint on a form does not belong to the person whose details are stated on the form, the form should be accepted as valid after contacting the number stated on the form, if the details of the contacted person match the details on the form.

JP noted that some forms on which fingerprints looked like blots of ink were also accepted as valid forms.

JP said that some forms were accepted even though the person’s details states on the form did not match the person’s identity card details.

JP Leader Gasin Ibrahim said that forms with unclear fingerprints should not have been accepted, and that the policy on accepting forms should have been created before the commission started accepting the forms.

Shah said that the problems will be filed to the Elections Commission in a letter.

JP did not state the number of forms in which they found irregularities.
