MVR 500,000 robbed from Faafu Atoll Council office

Thieves have broken into the Faafu Atoll Council Secretariat in Faafu Nilandhoo and robbed over half a million Rufiya from the council’s safe.

Nilandhoo council president Ibrahim Naeem told Sun today that thieves had broken the safe to take the money and that they assume the the offices was accessed through a window, after 11 p.m. last night.

“The safe had the State money received from atoll stores and through different services provided by the atoll council. They broke the safe to take the money and we think they accessed the office through an open window. The council doors are normally locked. Luckily, the MVR 400,000 or so in salaries for the atoll council employees were brought to the island around dawn this morning. Else, the money would have been there too,” Naeem said.

He said the offices does not employee a security guard because the funds was never allocated in the budget.

Maldives Police Service is investigating the case.
