Case filed to annul decision to appoint MP Hamza to JSC

A case has been filed to Supreme Court requesting annulment of the decision to appoint Bilehdhoo MP Ahmed Hamza to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

This case was filed by lawyer Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim (Waddey), who said that this appointment was carried out against the Constitution.

He said that Hamza has been noted as someone who works against the judiciary, and such an individual cannot be a member of JSC.

Hamza was elected to JSC by MPs of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), with 43 votes in favour and 27 against, out of 71 MPs who participated in the voting.

Following this decision by the parliament, Hamza said that this is a decision that would facilitate judicial reform, and that he would work towards this goal to the best of his ability.
