Criminal Court has today cancelled a hearing for the case against Henveyru-south MP Hamid Abdul Gafoor for refusing to provide urine samples to the authorities following his arrest from Haa Dhaalu Hondaidhoo in November last year.
An official from Criminal Court confirmed that the hearing, scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today, was cancelled.
MP Hamid’s lawyer Hussain Shameen said the court was informed that the MP cannot attend court today because parliamentary privileges states that a member of parliament cannot be summoned to a court of law in a way that prevents him from attending a parliament session.
However, the parliament concluded today’s session before 2:00 p.m.
Criminal Court said the next hearing for the case will hear confessions presented by the prosecution.
