Government has appealed the Civil Court ruling to reinstate the former head of police intelligence Mohamed Hameed (MC Hameed).
Deputy Attorney General Ahmed Usham confirmed the appeal.
Ordering the police to reinstate Hameed, Civil Court stated that the allegations against Hameed were criminal and that he was dismissed against the criminal procedure. The Court quoted the controversial Supreme Court ruling to reinstate former chief of the Civil Service Commission Mohamed Fahumy Hassan to unjustify that Hameed’s dismissal. The Court said it would fall under double jeopardy.
Mohamed Hameed was dismissed following allegations of providing classified information to a publication by the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), a report authored by MDP government’s former Defence Minister Minister Ameen Faisal and Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam. The report detailed the events surrounding the unexpected resignation of former president Mohamed Nasheed in February 2012.
