Heavy and intense overnight rain has caused street flooding in Feydhoo, Addu City, resulting in damage to a number of residential buildings.
Abdullah Sadiq, Mayor of Addu City told Sun that the downpour continued throughout the night from around 8:30 pm until dawn, and that by morning water had leaked into many houses, causing ICRadamage to property and home utensils. “The whole island is seeing a flash flood, and some houses have been considerably damaged by the rain,” said Sadiq. “Flood has entered some houses and rendered them unusable, and we are trying to make sleeping arrangements for residents of such houses tonight,” he added.
Addu City Municipal Services has already begun the task of drainage with the help of the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF). However, the work is still going on and the flood has not yet abated. According to reports, climate in Feydhoo has not improved either and a wet blanket over the region has been throwing rain on and off throughout today.
