Party supporters cut down campaign banners in Kurinbi

Supporters of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in Haa Dhaalu Kurinbi have vandalized campaign banners and posters on the island, in a strife between the two parties.

Kurinbi council president Mohamed Afrah has confirmed the incident to Sun, but said that it has not been reported to the police.

Sun Online’s monitor in Kunribi said that supporters of both MDP and PPM went on a rampage last night, cutting down banner and damaging campaign boards and posters.

“MDP and PPM dominates this island. We can’t seen anything that belongs to a political party on the road now, except the their campaign posts,” the monitor said.

The unrest began when PPM supporters started to cut down MDP banners after accusing MDP of damaging PPM banners. No one was hurt during last night’s unrest, the monitor said.
