President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has called on the Elections Commission to hold the presidential election on Saturday coming next, 26 October.
In a press statement published by the President’s Office, the President expressed concern that the presidential election could not be held as scheduled and reiterated his commitment to holding a free, fair, and inclusive election.
“The President is fully committed to holding a free, fair, and inclusive election, where none of the candidates boycott it,” the statement read.
The President further called on the Elections Commission to consult with the candidates, and find a way forward to have the election as early as possible, “preferably on Saturday, 26 October 2013.”
The President also urged on all three candidates and political parties to find a solution to the current disagreement.
