Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that they will need at least 72 hours to check and sign the voters’ list.
Speaking at a press conference at Nasandhura Palace Hotel today, PPM Vice President Abdul Raheem Abdulla said that efforts are under way by the party to fulfil the requirements stated on the guideline issued by the Supreme Court.
“Our party needs 72 hours to sign it [the voters’ list]. We need 72 hours to check it and have our representatives sign and put their fingerprints on the list. We will request the Elections Commission to give us 72 hours to sign the list,” he said.
Abdul Raheem said that PPM wants to hold the election on Saturday, but with just one day left, it is unlikely that the three candidates can sign the list, which contains over 10,000 pages, and submit it to the Elections Commission before the deadline tomorrow.
“Unless the list is submitted, the election cannot be held according to the Supreme Court’s guidelines,” said Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem at the press conference.
