Discussions begin with Dr Didi, to include MDP in the cabinet

The government has said that discussions are ongoing with MDP President Dr Ibrahim Didi, to appoint members of MDP to the remaining posts of the cabinet of the new government of Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.

Spokesperson of the President’s Office Abbas Adil Riza said today that Dr Didi is welcome to join the new government as a Minister. Dr Didi also has the opportunity to indicate other capable members of MDP to join the new government.

He said that current discussions with Dr Didi are unofficial, and that he hopes for a more positive reply from them when things ‘calm down’.

“Dr Didi can work towards bringing capable members of MDP to the cabinet. The party’s regulations allow him to do that. Didi also has the opportunity to join the government as a cabinet Minister,” Abbas Adil Riza said.

He said that he hopes for a positive response from Didi following the government’s discussions with him. The remaining positions in the cabinet will be filled within the next two weeks.

President Dr Waheed stressed the importance of including MDP in the current government, and said that new Ministries can even be created if competent members of MDP are willing to join the government. No action was taken following this statement as there was no response from MDP.
