Minister of Economic Development and former council member of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party, Ahmed Mohamed has signed for the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
The signing took place during a meeting of the PPM council, today.
Speaking to the press after the signing event, Ahmed Mohamed said that he left DRP because the party was being conducted against its two founding ideals.
“I left DRP today and joined PPM because the party is being conducted in contrary to the ways to which it was founded, towards a separate direction completely. A people who were working for a specific aim had veered off course, and this is disheartening,” Ahmed Mohamed said.
He said that he has notified DRP leader Ahmed Thasmeen Ali, of his departure from the party.
PPM leader, former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom also spoke after the signing event today. He said that Ahmed Mohamed's signing to PPM is a great step forward for the party and a source of encouragement for their efforts to win the upcoming presidential election.
