The Maldives Olympic Committee has said that the 2014 Commonwealth Games baton will arrive in the Maldives on the night of 21 October.
General Secretary of the Maldives Olympic Committee, Ahmed Marzoog told Sun Online that the baton will be taken to Addu on 22 October, and to Male’ on 23 October.
“The ceremony for the arrival of the baton will be held in Addu. This ceremony will be attended by students, political party officials, civil servants, and members of the public. Individuals will run with the baton in Addu City,” he said.
Marzoog said that individuals will also run with the baton on the streets of Male’, and that the baton will be taken to government offices.
The baton will travel to the 71 counties participating in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where 261 events involving 175 sports will be held.
The Queen kicked off the baton’s journey around the world, which will be completed on 23 July 2014, from Buckingham Palace yesterday.
