Former president Maumoon meets with President Waheed

Former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has met with President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik today.

The meeting took place in the official residence of the president, Muliaage, moments ago.

The purpose and details of the meeting were not revealed and a comment from the President's Office could not be obtained.

President Waheed also met with former president Mohamed Nasheed on the night of 2nd October, the week before the Supreme Court annulled the results of the September presidential election.

President Waheed, who received 5 percent of the vote in the September election, has made no indication to whether he will compete in the fresh elections, now scheduled for 19th October. Soon after the September polls, Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) announced that the incumbent president had declared support for the party. Waheed, however, did not confirm the endorsement.
