Should be possible to prosecute Nasheed, just like any other Maldivian citizen: Dr Jameel

Vice presidential candidate of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has said that it should be possible to prosecute Nasheed and sentence him, just like any other Maldivian citizen.

Dr Jameel said this while speaking at a PPM rally in Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo last night.

He said that the trial against Nasheed for arresting Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed should not have been suspended just because Nasheed is the leader of a political party, and called to resume this trial immediately.

Dr Jameel went on to say that PPM, if elected in the presidential election, will create 94,000 job opportunities in the country.

He said that Thinadhoo did not see any development during Nasheed’s presidency, and that the development enjoyed by the people of Thinadhoo was the result of developmental projects implemented by the government of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.

Dr Jameel said that a PPM government would prioritise land reclamation and extension in Thinadhoo.

He said that the government will also design flats for individuals, as per individuals’ wishes.

Dr Jameel said that a PPM government will develop a resort in every atoll, and ensure the distribution of the earnings of this resort throughout the atoll.
