Police have said that one individual was taken into custody during the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) protest last night, and that the individual has been released.
Police media official said that the individual was arrested for disobeying police orders, from the protesters gathered in the junction of Majeedheemagu and Chaandhaneemagu.
Rumors spread last night that the two MDP MPs, Ali Azim and Ibrahim Rasheed were arrested during the protest last night. Police have refuted the rumors.
MDP’s national council decided on Monday night to hold protests until the Supreme Court makes a decision on Jumhoory Party’s case, shortly after the court issued an injunction to postpone second round of elections.
MDP protesters gathered in several locations around Male' last night, calling for the early elections and the resignation of Supreme Court judges.
The protest ended peacefully around 2 a.m.
