Jumhoory Party’s presidential candidate Gasim Ibrahim has threatened to leave the party, if he is not happy with the choice of candidate that JP decides to support for the second round of the presidential elections.
Speaking to Sun in front of the Indian High Commission moments after his meeting with the High Commissioner today, Gasim said that which candidate to support during the second round will be decided by the party council.
When asked if he would declare support for a particular candidate after the Supreme Court case concludes, Gasim said: “This is not a personal thing. We are within a party. The party council will also make a decision. If Gasim does not agree with the council’s decision, Gasim will not remain as the party president, or in any other way.”
He said that being the party’s presidential candidate, it would not be right for him publicly state his personal views.
“I cannot make a personal statement. It will not be right. I don’t think it is right to make personal statements while being a party member,” Gasim said.
Gasim, who won third place in the first round of the presidential election, said that he still hopes to compete in the second round of the polls.
“We still have hope that we will be able to compete in the second round. When justice is served. When justice is served, it will be done,” Gasim said.
