Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in the Maldives has congratulated the people of the Maldives on the peaceful and orderly conduct of the first round voting, and has called upon all presidential candidates to respect the election results.
In a press statement published today, the Resident Coordinator stated that he looks forward to a similarly peaceful and orderly second round of voting and reiterated the recent statement by the UN Secretary-General, calling on all Maldivians to ensure that the elections are conducted in a credible and peaceful manner.
In his statement, the Resident Coordinator also reiterated the UN’s commitment to supporting a stable, democratic Maldives.
