President of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has called on the people of the Maldives to stop being afraid and work hard in unity, in order to win the second round of the presidential election on 28 September.
Gayoom made this remark while speaking at a PPM rally held in Alimas Carnival last night under the theme ‘Say No’ to presidential candidate of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), former president Mohamed Nasheed.
Gayoom said that people who support PPM are facing intimidation and being given death threats in some islands. He said that no Maldivian should fear another human being, and that people who are in fear will never be successful.
“We should not have fear in our hearts when carrying out our duties to our religion or nation. We should fear only God. We should not fear any human being, or anything else. Maldivians should reveal who they support, and move forward resolutely. No one can harm you,” he said.
Gayoom said that at the moment, PPM is working not just for the sake of the PPM-MDA coalition, but for the sake of the Maldivian people and the Maldivian nation.
He urged Maldivians to ‘Say Yes’ to PPM, and ‘Say No’ to opposition MDP.
Gayoom went on to say that God willing, PPM will win the second round of the presidential election on 28 September. He said that the Maldivian nation and religion can only be saved by saying no to MDP, and called on all Maldivians to bravely face this fight in order to win the election.
