Presidential candidate for Jumhoory Party Gasim Ibrahim has met with President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik tonight.
Sun reporters witnessed Gasim exiting the President’s official residence, Hilaaleege, around 9:30 p.m. tonight, after meeting with the President.
Gasim’s intentions for meeting with the President is yet unclear.
Gasim Ibrahim ended up in third place with 24.07 percent of votes, close behind Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) candidate Abdulla Yameen who received 25.35 percent. Securing second place, Yameen is now set to compete Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate Mohamed Nasheed in the run-off.
Speaking at a press conference today, Gasim declared that he will not accept the election results, stated that the polls were rigged, and said that they will contest the elections related issues in court.
