Presidential candidate of Forward with the Nation coalition, President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said that he is confident that Saturday’s election would be a transparent, free and fair election.
Addressing his supporters in Kulhudhuffushi last night at the final rally organised by the coalition before voting tomorrow, President Waheed said that upon his assumption of office, he was faced with accusations by several groups who said that it would no longer be possible to hold a free and fair election in the Maldives, as the country had lost its democratic system.
“Saturday’s election will be a historic one. A transparent, free and fair election will be held in this country on Saturday. This is the second free and fair presidential election to be held in the Maldives,” he said.
President Waheed reminded the people of Kulhudhuffushi that they have a great responsibility when casting their vote.
“Someday in the future, you might reflect on the past and question who you voted for back in 2013. What happened to the nation because of how you voted? Whether your vote resulted in advantages or disadvantages for your children, and their children? The vote you cast on Saturday is a great opportunity for you to build your lives, your grandchildren’s lives, and to build the country’s future,” he said.
