We will protect Maldivians

Running mate of the presidential candidate of the Progressive Party of Maldives, Dr Mohamed Jameel Ahmed, has said that a PPM government if elected will protect Maldivians’ jobs and businesses.

Dr Jameel said this while speaking to reporters at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) after concluding his trip to several islands in Haa Alifu Atoll.

“MDP’s President Nasheed has said publicly that if he gets elected as president, he would give the airport to GMR or another foreign company. A PPM government would ensure that important institutions are developed by Maldivians, such that the Maldivian party also receives a share of the profit,” he said.

He assured that PPM would not engage in any activities that might interfere with the country’s sovereignty, and while encouraging foreign investment, PPM would also take the necessary steps to protect Maldivians’ jobs and the rights of local business owners.

Referring to his visit to Haa Alifu Atoll, Dr Jameel said that there is great support for PPM’s presidential candidate Abdullah Yameen in most islands in the atoll.

“Dhidhdhoo was among the islands that were a bit different earlier. But now the majority of the people in Dhidhdhoo also support PPM. Similarly, when President Nasheed visited Hoarafushi, he was greeted only by few people. A lot of the people of the island joined us when we visited,” he said.

Dr Jameel has now departed to Dhaalu Atoll, after which he will depart to Noonu and Ari Atolls.
