Presidential candidate of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdullah Yameen has said that the personal wealth of a person is not capital that can be used to run a government, and that a government must be rich in order to carry out projects for the benefit of the people.
Yameen made this remark with reference to presidential candidate of Jumhooree Coalition, Gasim Ibrahim, while speaking at a rally in Maradhoo Feydhoo in Addu City.
“We can only do things, by the government, if the government is rich. Personal wealth of the person running the government, is not capital that can be used to run the government. That won’t happen. The most important thing for a rich person would be to ensure the progress of his own wealth,” said Yameen.
Yameen said that the person who is elected as president should not be someone who wants to accumulate wealth or focus on short-term benefits.
Criticising some presidential candidates, Yameen said that Gasim Ibrahim, Hassan Saeed and Mohamed Nasheed have not shown any sincerity, and urged people to vote for candidates who are sincere.
He said that the remarks by other parties (except PPM) contesting in the presidential election, indicating that do not want MDP to come to power, are not sincere.
He said that the fact that the other parties did not accept PPM’s suggestion to contest as one group against Nasheed in this presidential election, shows that their remarks in this regard are not sincere.
Yameen said that if the group that opposes Nasheed’s policies had appointed one candidate, the election result would have been obvious even before people cast their votes.
Yameen said that President of PPM, former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom implemented several development projects in Addu Atoll. In this regard, he said that aside from Male’, most development projects were implemented in Addu Atoll during Gayoom’s presidency.
Yameen and Leader of Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) Ahmed Siyam Mohamed also visited the campaign hall in Feydhoo today. At the meeting held at the campaign hall, Siyam shared some of Yameen’s policies with the members of the public.
