STELCO signs agreement regarding desalination using diesel engines

The State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has signed an agreement with Aquiva Foundation regarding the production of drinking water using diesel engines.

The agreement signed at a ceremony held at the STELCO Head Office today will facilitate desalination using generators in 28 power stations all over the Maldives.

STELCO said that the project has been started in Kaafu Gulhi, and that it will be fully implemented in October.

STELCO said that this environmentally-friendly project is financed by Aquiva Foundation, while profits will be shared between Aquiva Foundation and STELCO.

Managing Director of STELCO Mohamed Latheef said that the project will result in several environmental benefits, increased employment opportunities, as well as the provision of drinking water at a low cost to the people.
