High Court rules in favour of order to arrest former director of police intelligence department

High Court has today ruled in favour of the Criminal Court order to arrest the former Director of the Police Intelligence Department, Sabra Noordeen.

The case was filed in High Court by Sabra herself, asking the court to declare that the Criminal Court arrest order was unlawful and therefore, invalid.

The High Court ruling today stated that there was no room to declare that the arrest order was issued against the law.

High Court also said that a case of impeding of dignity has to be filed separately in Civil Court, as Sabra had argued that the police had been mistreated during her arrest.

Sabra Noordeen was arrested for obstructing police duties and assaulting police officers with regard to an incident on the Neelofaru Hingun – Majeedhee Magu intersection, on the day former President Mohamed Nasheed was arrested by order of the Hulhumale’ Magistrate Court.

She was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on March 17th in Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, right after she arrived in the Maldives, travelling through Colombo.

However, police had soon released Sabra after handing a summoning chit to attend the police station.
