Will not hesitate to implement death penalty: Dr Hassan Saeed

Jumhoory Party’s vice presidential candidate Dr Hassan Saeed has said that a Jumhoory Coalition government will not hesitate to implement the death penalty, even by hanging, for those who are convicted of importing drugs into the country.

Speaking at the vice presidential debate hosted jointly by Television Maldives (TVM) and The Maldives National University last night, Dr Saeed said that drug traffickers will receive the harshest penalties allowed by the law, during a Jumhoory Coalition government.

“Giving the harshest penalties to drug traffickers. God willing, even if it comes to hanging them, we will do it,” Dr Saeed said.

He said that his government will transform the country’s drug rehabilitation system into one of the best systems in the world and that a Jumhoory Coalition government will not hold back on expenses to achieve this goal.

Dr Saeed guaranteed that his government will successfully rehabilitate drug addicts back into the society.
