Maldives Police Service has forwarded the case of Baa Thulhaadhoo Island Councilor Ziyau Rasheed Ibrahim accused of assaulting police officers during the unrest to obstruct President Waheed from delivering his presidential address to parliament last year.
Police said that the Maldivian Democratic Party island councilor Ziyau Rasheed Ibrahim, 30, from Baa Thulhaadhoo Chaandhaneemaage has been accused of assaulting police officers, breaking police lines and protesting to incite fear within the capital Male’ in an attempt to stop the president from delivering his presidential speech to the parliament on 1st March last year.
The case was forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office on the 13th of August, police said.
They also said that Ziyau has a record of inciting fear and violence, disobeying police orders, obstructing police duties and assaulting the police.
