The Maldives Broadcasting Commission has said that investigations have been initiated into five cases regarding the broadcast of anti-campaign content against presidential candidates.
The commission noted that a guideline regarding the broadcast of political content during the election period was passed, published on the government gazette, and shared with all broadcasters earlier.
This guideline follows international best practice and was compiled based on the advice of an American consultant, said the Maldives Broadcasting Commission.
The commission has called on all broadcasting stations to ensure that all content broadcast during this period are in accordance with the aforementioned guideline.
