A no-confidence motion has been filed against President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Supreme Court Judge Adam Mohamed Abdullah, requesting his removal from the post of president of the JSC.
This motion against Adam Mohamed was filed by JSC member Sheikh Shuaib Abdul Rahman.
Shuiab told Sun today this motion against Adam Mohamed was filed because he has failed to keep his actions impartial and just when carrying out his responsibilities as the president of the commission.
He also expressed confidence that this motion will be passed by the JSC, and said that he had requested that secret voting be conducted on this motion.
“A request was made to table the issue when Supreme Court Judge Ali Hameed’s photo was leaked on social networks, but this issue was only tabled after a case was filed by the police. Similarly, a request was made to table the issue of four Supreme Court judges issuing an order to halt the appointment of a member to the Civil Service Commission. But none of these issues were tabled,” he said.
Shuaib said that he asked why the motion against Adam Mohamed was not put on the agenda of yesterday’s meeting, following which Adam Mohamed asked to hold further discussions on the matter, to which he replied that he has nothing further to say on the subject.
An official of JSC said that the motion will be looked into as per article 17 (a) of the JSC Regulation. According to this regulation, if a member of the commission requests to table a motion, it will be tabled by the secretary general based the JSC president’s decision after a draft agenda is presented to him by the secretary general. The decision not to table a motion will only be made after the member who filed the motion discusses the matter with the president, and agrees not to table the motion.
