Fire in Centara Grand in Machafushi leaves resort damaged

A fire incident in Centara Grand Island Resort and Spa Maldives on Alif Dhaalu Machafushi late last night has caused damages to the island resort.

The fire took place in the resort’s administrative building. It was brought under control through efforts by a fire team from nearby Sun Island Resort and police officers from Alif Dhaalu Mahibadhoo. The fire was controlled within one hour of officials attending the scene.

Police said that a Bangladeshi man, who was working to extinguish the fire, had suffered smoke inhalation and burns on three places, and had to be treated by the resort’s doctors on the scene.

The fire has left the resort’s administrative building severely damaged and rendered unusable.

Security forces received report of the fire around 12:50 a.m. last night and Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue team had shortly left the capital to attend the scene.
