EC omits Rasmaadhoo voters in re-registration list

Election Commission has today admitted to having omitted the people of Rasmaadhoo who had re-registered to vote in Male’, when they published the re-registration list earlier this month.

Re-registration was required by voters who intended to vote away from their permanent addresses. Deadline for re-registration was until the 7th of August.

In an interview to Sun today, President of the Elections Commission Fuad Thaufeeq acknowledged that the omission was an administrative fault and said that they have extended the complaints deadline for the Rasmaadhoo-Male’ re-registration list until 4:00 p.m. today.

“This was an administrative mistake. But we have uploaded the (Rasmaadhoo-Male') list to Election Commission’s website on the 17th of this month. We are also open for complaints regarding the Rasmaadhoo people who have re-registered in Male’, until 4 o’clock today,” Fuad Thaufeeq said.

However, Fuad said that the Commission will not entertain complaints after today's deadline.

Fuad said that they received 154 complaints regarding the re-registration list. They are currently in the process of reviewing and addressing the complaints, he said.
